    BetsRank Verdict

Hands-on testing by Alexandre Dubois — bonus tested, multiple sessions

Tropicool 4 had a good reason to exist: reversing the direction of travel. Tropicool 3 pulled everything leftwards; this entry pushes right, with two walking symbols instead of one all-or-nothing event. The Toucan adding 1 to the global multiplier per step and the Flamingo growing as it crosses give a legible progression: you watch the round's value build cell by cell, rather than hanging on a single trigger. It is better designed than its predecessor.

The rest is accumulation. Grid Flip, crushing big symbols, an Elmo that clears rows, ice cubes in the COOL Reel: each feature defends itself in isolation, but the whole eventually saturates. And the hit frequency BigWinBoard records, 24.1%, is below Tropicool 3's official 28.0% for an identical RTP — so rarer wins that are barely larger.

Two firm criticisms. 94.0% is €6.00 of margin per €100 wagered, when ELK was offering 96.1% on Black River Gold and 96.3% on Lake's Five. The Tropicool series paid for its 25,000x ceiling with two points of RTP, and that is a poor trade for anyone not purely chasing the maximum. Above all, the 87% version BigWinBoard flags is a genuine trap: more than double the margin, on a game with an identical name. Check the RTP in the rules before betting, without exception.

    Strengths

    • +Two walking symbols that make the round's construction legible
    • +The Toucan adds 1 to the global multiplier with every step taken
    • +The Flamingo grows up to six symbols tall and awards drops on each move
    • +Global multiplier stays persistent throughout the bonus round
    • +X-iter graduated across five tiers from 3x to 500x rather than one buy
    • +Figures verified independently of Tropicool 3, with no copied listing

    To consider

    • Default RTP of 94.0%, or €6.00 of margin per €100 wagered
    • An 87% version exists according to BigWinBoard, to check before betting
    • Hit frequency of 24.1%, below Tropicool 3's official 28.0%
    • An accumulation of features that eventually saturates the read
    • X-iter purchases are banned in the United Kingdom

    About Tropicool 4

Tropicool 4 is the fourth entry in ELK Studios' frozen series. It shares exactly the same headline figures as Tropicool 3: a six-column, six-row grid, 46,656 ways to win, a default RTP of 94.0%, a ceiling of 25,000x, volatility rated 8 out of 10 and bets from €0.20 to €100.

We checked this specifically, because identical values across two entries in a series are often the sign of a copied listing. That is not the case here: Tropicool 3's official data sheet and the BigWinBoard and SlotCatalog records for Tropicool 4 agree on every one of those figures. The two games really are calibrated the same. The BetsRank database did, however, list "Cluster Pays" for both, which was wrong: these games pay through 46,656 ways to win, or 6 to the power of 6, not through blobs of adjacent symbols.

Where the two entries diverge is in the mechanics, and the change is structural: the direction of travel reverses. In Tropicool 3 everything converged leftwards — the Elmo symbol had to reach the leftmost column to empty the COOL Reel. In Tropicool 4 the two driving symbols walk rightwards.

The Toucan is a 1x3 walking multiplier that advances one reel to the right at each step, raising the global multiplier by 1 per step until it exits past the rightmost reel. The Flamingo is a 1x2 or 1x3 walking wild that grows in height as it crosses, up to six symbols tall, and awards extra drops on each move. The global multiplier stays persistent throughout the bonus.

Elmo also changes function. In Tropicool 3 he triggered a full drop of the COOL Reel. Here the Elmo Drop removes all paying symbols from the rows he covers when he grows to 1x2 or 1x3 — he clears instead of filling. Two features absent from the previous entry complete the picture: the Grid Flip, which flips the grid horizontally before becoming a wild itself, and big symbols in 2x2 or 3x3 blocks, which crush the pay symbols beneath them until they reach the bottom.

The COOL Reel survives, three rows above the grid, but now also holds empty ice cubes and empty cells, and it refills from the right. Three or more bonus symbols open the free round, awarding 6, 9, 12 or 15 drops depending on the number of scatters. The Super Bonus guarantees Elmo on every drop.

The X-iter menu reuses the same price ladder as Tropicool 3 — 3x, 25x, 50x, 100x and 500x the bet — with a different middle tier: here 50x buys Double Birds, meaning both birds guaranteed, where Tropicool 3 sold Elmo's Revenge at that price. These purchases are banned in the United Kingdom.

Two numerical warnings. First, 94.0% represents €6.00 of house margin per €100 wagered, against €3.90 on Black River Gold or The Wiz: ELK's entire recent generation has surrendered two points. Second, and more seriously, BigWinBoard flags the existence of an 87% version that operators can deploy. At 87%, the margin rises to €13.00 per €100 wagered, more than double. Check the RTP shown in the game before betting, casino by casino. Finally, the hit frequency recorded by BigWinBoard is 24.1%, down on the 28.0% the official sheet publishes for Tropicool 3.

    Key mechanics

    • Six-column, six-row grid with 46,656 ways to win, not clusters
    • Same figures as Tropicool 3: 94.0%, 25,000x, volatility 8 out of 10, verified separately
    • Toucan: a 1x3 walking multiplier travelling right and adding 1 per step
    • Flamingo: a 1x2 or 1x3 walking wild growing up to six symbols tall
    • Every move the Flamingo makes awards additional drops
    • Elmo Drop: removes all paying symbols from the rows it covers
    • Grid Flip: flips the grid horizontally, then becomes a wild
    • Big symbols in 2x2 or 3x3 blocks crushing the symbols beneath them
    • Bonus of 6, 9, 12 or 15 drops by scatter count, with a persistent multiplier
    • Five-tier X-iter at 3x, 25x, 50x, 100x and 500x the bet, banned in the United Kingdom
    💰 Bonus Buy: X-iter, five tiers: 3x / 25x / 50x / 100x / 500x the bet

    Tropicool 4 FAQ

Does Tropicool 4 really share the same figures as Tropicool 3?

Yes, and we verified it specifically.

A 6x6 grid, 46,656 ways to win, a 94. 0% RTP, a 25,000x ceiling, volatility 8 out of 10 and bets from €0. 20 to €100: the two entries are calibrated identically. This is not a copied listing.

Is Tropicool 4 a cluster game?

    No.

The BetsRank database listed "Cluster Pays", which was wrong. The game pays through 46,656 ways to win on a six-column, six-row grid, or 6 to the power of 6, across adjacent columns from the left.

What genuinely changes compared with Tropicool 3?

    The direction of travel.

In Tropicool 3, Elmo had to reach the left column to empty the COOL Reel. Here the Toucan and the Flamingo walk rightwards, and Elmo clears rows instead of filling the grid.

    How does the Toucan work?

It is a 1x3 walking multiplier that advances one reel to the right at each step.

It raises the global multiplier by 1 per step until it exits past the rightmost reel. The global multiplier stays persistent throughout the bonus.

    What does the Flamingo do?

It is a 1x2 or 1x3 walking wild that grows in height as it crosses the grid rightwards, up to six symbols tall.

Each of its moves also awards additional drops.

How does the Elmo Drop differ from Elmo's Revenge?

In Tropicool 3, Elmo triggered a full drop of the COOL Reel, so he filled the grid.

Here the Elmo Drop removes all paying symbols from the rows he covers when he grows to 1x2 or 1x3. He clears rather than adds.

What does the Grid Flip do?

It flips the grid horizontally, then turns into a wild symbol itself.

It is a feature absent from Tropicool 3, as are the 2x2 and 3x3 big symbols that crush the symbols beneath them.

How many drops does the bonus award?

Three or more bonus symbols open the round, awarding 6, 9, 12 or 15 drops depending on whether three, four, five or six scatters land.

The COOL Reel can grant extra drops during the round.

What do the X-iter tiers cost?

Bonus Hunt at 3x the bet, Locked Wilds at 25x, Double Birds at 50x, Bonus Game at 100x and Super Bonus at 500x.

The 50x tier differs from Tropicool 3, which sold Elmo's Revenge at that price.

Should you be wary of the RTP shown?

    Yes.

Alongside the 94% default, BigWinBoard flags a version set to 87% that operators can deploy. At 87%, the margin rises from €6. 00 to €13. 00 per €100 wagered. Check the RTP in the game rules, casino by casino.

    What is the hit frequency?

    BigWinBoard records 24.

1%, roughly one winning spin in four. That is down on the 28. 0% the official data sheet publishes for Tropicool 3, even though the two games share the same RTP and volatility.
