About 3 Dancing Monkeys
3 Dancing Monkeys is a 243-ways game on a five-reel, three-row grid, released on 17 April 2023. Pragmatic Play distributes it, but it was co-developed with the American studio Wild Streak Gaming — which explains a design some distance from house habits: no tumbles, no global multiplier, but a system of modifiers that layer on top of each other.
Our own listing needs correcting first. It claimed 20 paylines and a 5,000x ceiling. Both were wrong. The game pays by 243 ways, and the measured ceiling is 12,077x the stake — more than double what we published. Default RTP is 96.00%, with 95% and 94% versions the operator may choose. The 2018 release date we carried was wrong too.
The heart of the game is three coloured gems, each tied to one of the three monkeys. They do nothing in base play beyond triggering the bonus: every gem that lands awards 5 free spins and switches its modifier on for the whole round. Two gems therefore mean 10 spins and two active modifiers; three gems mean 15 spins and all three.
The red gem fires the WAYS modifier: the reels go from three rows to five, and the combination count climbs from 243 to 3,125 ways to win. It is the most visible of the three, the one that literally changes the size of the board. The green gem activates WILD, adding extra wild symbols to reels 2, 3 and 4 — the three middle columns, the ones that matter in a ways system. The blue gem fires WINS, applying a 2x, 3x or 5x multiplier to every wild; and when several multiplier wilds take part in the same combination, their multipliers multiply together.
That last rule is what explains the ceiling. A combination on a 5x5 grid crossed by several 5x wilds reaches values 243 ways alone would never produce. The three modifiers do not add up, they compose: more rows, more wilds on the middle reels, and each of those wilds carrying a multiplier.
The bonus also brings in mystery symbols that reveal as extra spins — from 1 to 42 — or as direct cash wins between 30x and 5,000x the stake. A single well-placed mystery symbol can double the length of the round, or on its own account for most of a session's return.
The frequencies recorded by BigWinBoard and SlotCatalog describe a surprisingly generous base game and a bonus that is hard to reach. The hit rate is 1 in 2.74 spins — better than one spin in three pays something, far above the sector average. The free spins round, however, triggers roughly once every 145 spins, and the 12,077x ceiling is put at 1 in 153,846,153. That is one of the most extreme ratios we have recorded: the theoretical maximum exists chiefly to appear on the poster.
A bonus buy at 100x the stake is offered where the law allows, the UK excluded. Unlike many Pragmatic buys, this one carries an explicit guarantee: it secures two gems on the triggering spin, so 10 spins and two live modifiers at minimum. Bets run from €0.30 to €150 per spin, not €0.20 to €125 as our listing claimed.
