3 Buzzing Wilds was released on 13 July 2023 by Pragmatic Play, and the title describes the content literally: three wild types, three free spins rounds each built on one of them. Nothing else. No global multiplier, no cascades, no expanding grid. A fixed five-reel, four-row grid, 20 fixed paylines, and a garden of beehives, ladybirds and caterpillars.
That layout is worth stating precisely, because our own listing previously claimed a 5x3 grid and a 2,500x ceiling. Both were wrong: Pragmatic Play's official game page describes a 5x4, and the ceiling is 5,000x the stake. The default RTP is not 96.52% either but 96.03% — and two reduced versions exist, at 95.01% and 94.05%, which operators are free to deploy.
In the base game a wild event fires at random and takes one of three shapes. Random Wilds drop wild symbols onto arbitrary positions. Expanding Wilds grow a wild until it covers its entire reel. Surrounding Wilds turn every square adjacent to the trigger symbol into a wild, which means up to eight positions around it. These events do not stack: a spin gives you one type or another, never all three.
Three or more beehive scatters open the free spins round, and that is where the game takes its final shape. You choose which of the three wilds stays active, and the spin count moves accordingly: 10 spins with Random Wilds, 8 with Expanding Wilds, 6 with Surrounding Wilds. The trade-off is consistent — the more surface a wild covers, the fewer spins you get. The essential difference from base play comes down to one word: during the bonus, every wild produced stays sticky until the round ends. You are building a grid that fills up progressively, and the last spins are worth far more than the first ones.
None of the three rounds can be retriggered. Six, eight or ten spins is all you will get. That design choice explains the relatively low ceiling: with no retrigger and no multiplier, the only variable is accumulated wild surface, and it saturates quickly.
The frequency figures published by Pragmatic Play and recorded by BigWinBoard give an honest read on the pace. The hit rate is roughly one spin in four, which is high, but most of those wins do not return the stake. The bonus lands once every 253 spins on average — expect a good hour of manual play between triggers. And the 5,000x ceiling is put at 1 in 5,431,831, which puts it out of reach of any normal session.
The top-paying symbol is the worker bee at 50x the stake for five on a line, followed by the ladybird, the caterpillar and the butterfly, then the usual J, Q, K and A. That is a low scale: outside stacked sticky wilds, five bees pay the equivalent of half a stake across ten spins. The whole game therefore rests on the bonus, and it makes no secret of it.
A bonus buy at 100x the stake is available wherever regulation allows it, which excludes the United Kingdom. The bought version's RTP is slightly higher, between 95.99% and 96.02% depending on the base configuration the casino has selected.
